Bylaws and Standing Rules

The bylaws are the “Constitution” for ACE. They set the structure and principles for governance and decision-making. Bylaws are ratified (adopted) by a vote of all educators, and can be modified by a 2/3rds vote of the Representative Council.

The standing rules are the “Laws” for ACE. They set the policies for day-to-day functions. Standing rules are ratified (adopted) by a vote of all educators, must comply with the bylaws, and can be modified by a majority vote of the Executive Cabinet.

Bylaws and standing rules are important because they 1) create a structure for decision-making, communication, and taking action; 2) provide transparency and openness about ACE’s function; and 3) create an interim governance structure for ACE that allows inclusion and participation.
